I will be joining Pat Schmutzer – owner of FireFlies at Jalensky’s Sport & Marine on Saturday March 4th, 2017 as part of their Lake Michigan series seminars. It’s a great event to pick up some great tackle at discounted prices and also learn some Lake Michigan ‘best practices’ that are very useful when fishing for salmon & trout. We hope to see you there! -Capt. Tom Pataska
It may be cold in SE Wisconsin but the bookings heat up at this time of year. If you’re considering a fishing charter anytime between May – September, it is never too early to lock in. The busiest times are June – mid-August but having three boats, I’m sure there is a spot for your group!!
Something to consider, since we’ve been asked a lot lately….’When is Salmon A Rama 2017??
Well this is right from the tournament committee: Get your vacation reserved! SAR 2017 DATES JULY 15 THRU JULY 23RD! $25,000 GRAND PRIZE!! It only takes one fish…the largest (by weight).
Keep an eye on our updates and of course: Salmon A Rama’s updates www.salmon-a-rama.com
Watch our Facebook business page & YouTube page as well – you can link to them right from here…on our website!
We just wrapped up our 2016 season and to say the season was great, is an understatement. We saw some of the best salmon fishing in years and the sizes were just as impressive. If you’re thinking about getting out on the lake in 2017 – do not wait to book!! Dates for next year are already filling. We’ll be back at it in May 2017 and based off some of the 2-3yr old salmon we caught in the late season this year, the expectation is the sizes, come 2017, will be excellent!
Thank you to all that joined us over the 2016 season – what a great time! We’ll see you in 2017!!
What else can we say – aside from a brief cold spell in May and some far offshore fishing, it has really come a long way since then. We have experienced some of the best salmon & trout fishing from late May right into now! The fish are healthy and better yet – big!! We are coming into the annual, full lake tournament (based out of Racine, WI) – Salmon A Rama (www.salmon-a-rama.com). This tournament begins Saturday July 9th at midnight and runs until Sunday July 17th – 11am. This time of year is very busy but if you’d like to get out on the lake for either a morning or afternoon – don’t wait and get in touch with us now! Good fishing – we’ll see you out there!
Airing first this morning (Feb 20th, 2016), Capt Tom Pataska & Kyle Deavers of Lucky Lyle Fishing Charters join CBS58’s April Dovorany on the show Racine & Me. Racine & Me, Feb. 20th: Lucky Lyle’s Fishing Charters
Happy New Year to all – hopefully all enjoyed the holiday’s over the last week. A quick update, since quite a few have inquired about this.
Salmon-A-Rama 2016 will be held: Saturday July 9th, 2016 – Sunday July 17th (11am), 2016.
To find out more details about the contest, please visit their
If you’re interested in fishing with us during this time, please get in touch as soon as possible since this is a very busy time.
It’s been a month since the boats have made their 2015 ‘splash’ and shakedown trips complete and fishing charters in full swing.
We started out with some early Coho Salmon action mixed with Brown Trout, then back to nearly all Browns. Then another wave of Coho action showed up in the near shore waters. A mix of small Stinger spoons and small dodger & fly combos were the choice baits.
As we near the end of May, there are still large Coho Salmon schools to the south that are migrating this way. In addition, there are some nice King Salmon coming aboard as well.
Dates for May filled fast and if you’re thinking about June, July or August, this is the time to lock in that trip.
As always, I like to point out Salmon A Rama www.salmon-a-rama.com July 11th-19th, 2015. The grand prize for the largest fish is $20,000!! To top that off, we’re one of the preferred Charter Boats. What does that mean for you? If you book a charter for a day or days during this contest, you’re automatically in the tournament for the days you fish with us! Not a bad deal.
For more information about this, get in touch and we’ll fill you in. Dates do boom fast for this prime time.
Until next time, tight lines and see you on the water!
It’s warming up and in about one month, we will start ‘splashing‘ the boats with trips to begin soon after.
With that said, have you set the trip yet with your friends/family, coworkers, and/or customers?
If not, this is the time to come up with a couple date options and get in touch. (Locking in a date/dates – requires a $100 deposit per trip – we accept all major credit cards, check, cash).
Please keep in mind, weekends (Fri-Sun) are always the first in demand but with three boats and running both morning and afternoon trips, this provides flexibility in order to get you in on a date that works for all. Weekdays tend to have more flexibility.
If you are traveling in and require accommodations – you should book these as soon as you lock in your fishing charter. The Best Western-Harborside/Kenosha is just one block from the boats and walking distance from many great restaurants/establishments.
Please mention you are coming in for a fishing charter, in order to get the discounted nightly rate.
- (You should call the hotel vs booking online)
Please see hotel link for more information – such as location / phone # / amenities etc:
May-June is looking hot for Coho Salmon, in fact, some early reports that we monitor yearly during the early season, from the south, is that the Coho’s, Brown’s, and Lake Trout are showing up in full force. Coho’s start their migration up to the Kenosha waters from Indiana, coming into Illinois in April and to us, off Kenosha, around late April throughout all of May and if the water remains cool, throughout June (like 2014).
Another group of dates to keep in mind – July 11th – July 19th – Salmon A Rama www.salmon-a-rama.com This contest has been going on since the 70’s and now the Grand Prize is $20,000 – for the largest fish. That’s just one fish; if you land the largest fish – that prize is yours!! There are many other cash prizes in the contest as well, you don’t want to miss out!!
Better yet, we are one of the Preferred Charters for the contest – so if you book a date or dates with us that fall during the contest, you are automatically in the contest. This is a very high in demand time, if interested, you’ll want to lock in as soon as possible.
Lastly, over the next couple months you may start seeing some nice changes to our website as we work through updates/overhauls on the site with our web designer.
Again, feel free to get in touch anytime (e-mail, phone, text, Facebook Inbox, website request form) – you can link to the Facebook page off the website, be sure to check it out and ‘Like’ the page. We have updates on the page often.
It’s that time of year to finalize your spring fishing plans. If you’re looking at May for that excellent Coho Salmon action or even June – get in touch now to lock in your date. I know we’re looking forward to spring!!
It’s December and the holiday’s are fast approaching. Gift ideas? How about a charter fishing trip on Lake Michigan?
Gift certificates for charters are a hot item at this time of year. Get in touch and let us know what you want – we can definitely make it work!
The 2015 season is right around the corner.
